Spider
Spiders are electronic bugs that scour hundreds of websites at once and gather information (such as mailing addresses, phone numbers, social security numbers or email addresses). While spammers tend to employ spiders, other spiders simply record all text on a page and store it in a database. This information is later used to rank the site for possible search terms.
